The Seven Sisters encompass miles of bright white chalk cliffs and some truly unspoiled coastline surrounded by stunning greenery. It’s a truly unique place that your whole family is bound to fall in love with and it’s easy to get there, making it an ideal day trip from London. Simply take the Southern Railway to Eastbourne from London Bridge.
Portree
Situated on the idyllic Isle of Skye in Scotland, Portree is the island’s capital and gorgeous gateway with dozens of potential things to see and do. Known colloquially as the “King’s Port,” the town is home to many upmarket hotels, restaurants and historical landmarks. Take a pony ride at the Trekking Centre, venture out on a fishing boat and spy on the local wildlife or explore the cultural hub that is the Aros Centre. Or just go for a long walk!
Lake Windermere
The undisputed pride of the Lake District and the longest lake in the country, Windermere is over 10 miles long and represents what many consider to be the most picturesque part of Cumbria. There are hundreds of incredible walks to discover as well as lake cruises and for those who enjoy a good village, there’s the awe-inspiring Ambleside at the head of the lake and the village of Windermere itself.
Portmeirion
Famous as the setting for the classic sci-fi show The Prisoner, Portmeirion in Wales is a tiny and unique Mediterranean village with dozens of incredibly colourful buildings and some of the most spectacular architecture in Europe. It’s the very definition of quirky and is bound to be popular with kids. Imagine a British village designed by Walt Disney and you’re halfway there.
Stonehenge
One of the ancient wonders of the world, we still can’t claim to know exactly why Stonehenge was built. But we can say it’s one of the oldest existing structures in the world. Stonehenge puzzled and delighted scientists and archaeologists for thousands of years. It’s a day out you’ll certainly never forget.
