West Street Grill in Litchfield Offers Farm-to-Table Dining & Cocktails

West Street Grill in Litchfield, CT was founded on the idea that great food should be fresh, local, and served in an upscale environment that makes everyone feel welcome. The restaurant was established in 1990 by James O’Shea and the late Charles Kafferman.

It was the first restaurant to establish a high-end American kitchen in the state of Connecticut

Meet the Owners

People knew Charles for his gentle, easygoing nature and the welcoming energy he brought to everyone dining at West Street Grill. He warmly welcomed both regular guests and new customers with equal delight. Many famed authors began to frequent the establishment such as Arthur Miller, Phillip Roth, and William Styron.

To this day, local authors including Stuart Woods and William O’Shaughnessy can be seen regularly at West Street Grill.

James credits his Irish upbringing for the importance both partners placed on creating a welcoming environment. This same environment offers an impeccable dining experience without pretense, and with a fair price point.

When the restaurant was first established, the term “Farm to Table” was not in existence. Yet West Street Grill developed an immediate dedication to obtaining the finest ingredients available from local, artisanal sources.

At that time, there were no distributors in the area and James would drive to the New York vegetable and fish market to source the freshest ingredients. Today, the Litchfield area is quite different and has become a destination for vacationers from New York and Massachusetts.

West Street Grill’s Accolades & Menu

The ethos of West Street Grill, though, remains the same: to provide outstanding dining, cocktails, and service to all who visit.

West Street Grill has been the recipient of the Alexander Lieberman top 50 Best New Restaurant awards, the Mimi Sheraton award, and the Conde Nast Traveller Award.

The atmosphere is impeccable and boasts a newly built bar and booths and a restored floor. In warmer weather, French doors open to a view of the Litchfield green, and outdoor tables line the street for al fresco dining.

The full-service menu features a variety of fresh and local ingredients. Guests can enjoy local beef, fresh fish, and pork.

The menu also includes Black Angus burgers with hand-cut fries and colorful salads. Homemade pasta and a children’s menu are also available.

West Street Grill’s Head Chef expertly crafts each dish. Whether it’s a family dinner or a romantic night out, this upscale yet approachable restaurant is the perfect choice for lunch or dinner.
